As sensitives, we carry so much. We probably have spent all our life tracking the outside world, all the subtleties that might seem invisible or not existent to the most.

And this is overwhelming. I always said that sometimes being highly sensitive feels like not having a skin. Even a soft rain sometimes can be painful on a non protected skin.

As human beings and sensitives, we have multiple layers of being. In yoga they are defined Koshas: the physical body, breath energy body, mental emotional body, witness and bliss body.

Each layer can get frazzled, overstimulated. And it might need some special attention, and companionship. Or just to be witnessed.

This is why I created a method called BLOOM. The aim it to do the exact contrary of what the mainstream online wellness industry often does: more lists, more challenges, more you need to do to change your self.

Spoiler alert: you don’t have to.

BLOOM is about space, about connection and softening each layer of our being.

This is the first time in my life that every day I pour my heart in something I love and I believe in with all my heart!

Receiving these words means the world to me. On so many levels.

It is so therapeutic for me as a person to feel seen. To feel that how I am, how I feel, the inspirations I share are landing. Knowing that I don’t have to force myself into being someone I’m not.

Feeling received with such a welcome embrace is worth all the sacrifices and hardships in making such a big career change in my life.

The second very meaningful thing is: softness, warmth, care matter!

In a world where often times we hear we need to have a thicker skin, we need to hustle more... heart centered care is needed!

A welcoming place to land knowing all you are bringing with you is ok to be there with, is needed!

Practices that are meant to create space for body and heart to soften, are needed!

My hope is that more sensitives and deep feelers can bathe into this softening and echoing statement: there is nothing wrong with you, you’re a highly attuned instrument and you need to be cared and met as such.

I have always truly admired people who knew what they wanted to do when growing up. Or where to call home. Full of directions, goals, clear needs.

In my almost 44 years of life I had to learn this is not how my brain or soul operates. Things call me in an energetic way, decisions are more matter of feeling than deciding cognitively what is right or wrong. I was called to leave Italy in 2010, and followed the calling.

In all the years after I left my home in Italy, I explored it all. Enneagram (4), Myers Briggs (ENFP), Human Design (generator 2/4), Numerology (6).

Each of these paradigms made sense, but I lacked a red thread of connection between the dots. It arrived when I read “the Highly Sensitive Person” from Elaine Aron, and discovered I am an HSP.

Being highly sensitive is not just a social media trend. It’s a nervous system trait, HSPs receive and elaborate the world deeper than average. A deeper sensorial elaboration has easier overwhelm and saturation as a consequence. As such we need things like more time alone to recover from social time, clear plans that don’t change last minute. We enter the room and feel things that are invisible to others.

I could talk about it for years.

On top of being an HSP I also discovered I am a rare type, HSS meaning high sensation seeker. It is truly like having two souls. One that searches for tenderness one that wants thrill.

And if you experience it too, you might know how hard it is to find the “Nirodha”, or middle ground to make both Natures happy enough.

I am called back to remember all my path and all of this as I land in my home country and family.

Happy to feel my family, to share space and also feeling that here the ground feels like home for different reason than Boston. But still, as a typical romantic I now miss my home on the other side of the Ocean, my family and my spiritual family there.

Perhaps I’m learning that yearning is part of my experience. Like @selenecalloniwilliams says: “ you are given two natures, and you’re called to inhabit both of them”.

To all of you sensitive hearts, I send my love. If you’re traveling thru threshold, might you know that you’re held. And you’re not alone.

The Star of the Earth - Vasudhara

Have you ever felt you don’t belong to this world? Have you wandered the world trying to find that feeling of being home, and perhaps never truly found it?

It happened to me, it still does at times.

Something in me shifted after I learnt about Vasudhara, the Star of the Earth. It is one of the less knows chakras, and it is … in the soil.

Imagine a star between your feet and around 20 inches in the ground. Like a super root.

Vasudhara teaches us that the stars are not only in the sky. That spiritual growth is not happening in the ethereal, looking up at the sky.

Spiritual growth is in bringing the stars in the Earth, in dirty hands planting seeds. All my life I looked up at the sky, reaching for more knowledge and academic pursuit.

As a sensitive I understood that my growth is in connecting with the Earth, with the day to day, with the practical. To find a way home to myself, when everything is loud and chaotic.

Feeling at home has been and is a deep challenge for me. I have always felt I was different, and I didn’t belong . I was feeling too much, or the wrong things. Or both. I spent time when was a child wondering if I truly was made of another material, from another galaxy.

I have been traveling, relocating, I changed skies above my head. But that feeling stayed with me, and often shows up for me to this day.

I recently learnt from @selenecalloniwilliams about chakras that are non mainstream, and more esoteric in meaning.

One of them is Vasudhara, the Star of the Earth. It is said to be around 15 inches under the feet. It is deep int the Earth, and it is like a bright star.

This chakra is about the feeling of homecoming, belonging to this Earth. My teacher shared few stories that resonated with me. One was about the fallen shooting stars.

It is told that some fallen shooting stars, forget who they are when they land on the Earth. They spend all their life yearning to go back to the sky, and the don’t find the path. To discover that…

… the true path is deep in the Earth, is in the day to day life, in dirty hands planting a seed. She said “ finding home is not about reaching the stars, is about discovering that the stars are in the Earth”.

Ciao Dear One!

I am Federica, and like you I am a deep feeler and a highly sensitive person.

Lately the I have been feeling overflown with thoughts, anxiety, a sense of not having roots deep in the ground. Like if I was floating, and life was nothing more than a checklist to be completed.

What has helped me over and over in reconnecting to my body and the now moment is the gentle practice of homecoming. Using gentle movement, healing mudras and Yoga Nidra meditations I found quite literally micro moments of peace.

And it is all rooted in my firm belief that what you are feeling, what I am feeling is not wrong or something to be fixed. I believe in creating space so that what we feel can be felt and soften its grip.

We don’t create space by doing more, by hustling more. We create more space by welcoming our sensitive bodies and nervous systems in a place that feels soft like an exhale.

I am Federica, and like you I am a deep feeler and a highly sensitive person.

Lately the I have been feeling overflown with thoughts, anxiety, a sense of not having roots deep in the ground. Like if I was floating, and life was nothing more than a checklist to be completed.

What has helped me over and over in reconnecting to my body and the now moment is the gentle practice of homecoming. Using gentle movement, healing mudras and Yoga Nidra meditations I found quite literally micro moments of peace.

And it is all rooted in my firm belief that what you are feeling, what I am feeling is not wrong or something to be fixed. I believe in creating space so that what we feel can be felt and soften its grip.

We don’t create space by doing more, by hustling more. We create more space by welcoming our sensitive bodies and nervous systems in a place that feels soft like an exhale.

I just watched “Meet me in the good light”, the documentary about Andrea Gibson. I am still processing the depths of pain, laughter, wisdom and sublime celebration of life.

One quote stuck with me, and hit me like a rock.

Everything you’re feeling, name it love.

Being a HSP all of my life, I experiment extreme feelings oftentimes very contradictory and at the same time. Does it happen to you too?

This little quote is mighty. It’s about recognizing that beside of the Nature of what we are feeling, if it’s a joy or a sorrow … it is at its core love.

Grief is love that doesn’t know where to land. Sadness and Anger come from love of what we have lost.

I wanted to share this quote in hope you too can sit with it, and have a moment to hug all that you are feeling.

Yoga Nidra changed my life. It has been at the center of my practice, and the practices I have taught for few years now.

Even when I’m not formally teaching a Nidra workshop, the Koshas and imagery are the key to each and every of my classes.

Why?

Because imagination is the secret path to healing. In ancient cultures imagination, vision was considered sacred. People with vivid imagination were highly respected and considered a bridge between worlds.

In our times, imagination seems to be relegated as something cute for kids or for artists.

Imagination is not only related to visual imagination, many people might think Nidra is not for them because they can’t visualize anything.

We are all different, we all receive the world thru different channels. Some people are more visual, some people learn by hearing, some people sense in their body … and so forth.

Today Friday March 20th marks the astronomical start of spring in the Northern Hemisphere. It happens when the sun crosses directly over the equator, bringing nearly equal lengths of day and night globally, a moment of balance symbolizing renewal and increasing warmth after winter.

It also the start of Aries season, sign that rules the head and ruled by Mars. The initiatory and pioneer fire.

It’s not by chance that in native cultures today marks the actual beginning of the New Year.

More light, warmth, the hope of a spring breeze. Aren’t we more similar to plants and flowers and the animal world than we would like to admit?

The heart is not just a mere pump. In my PhD studies in Medical Biotechnology Neuroscience, there was a lot of importance given to the brain as the Emperor of the body. It turns out in the last 20 years science has been discovering that the heart has its own intrinsic nervous system. And that the heart is sending up to the brain more information with the vagus nervus than the brain is sending down.

The heart also has a magnetic field that is 20 times more intense than the brain.

What does it mean in practice?

It means that the heart is not "just" keeping us alive by jumping blood. It is the first perceiver, collects information, explores the world with wonder and keep the brain informed, so that it can decide if something feels safe or if we might be in danger. The brain's job is our survival, not our happiness.

All of this to say that I am obsessed with this new discoveries. I value every time that research and ancient philosophies and ancient philosophies converge. As a matter of fact, Traditional Chinese Medicine defines the heart as the Emperor of the body, and the seat of our consciousness and life energy. And so does yoga, where the seat of consciousness is centered in the heart.

Dropping in the heart means taking in beauty, breath deeply, taking time to rest and take the world in. This is why everything I teach has its center in the heart.

I am going to launch very soon a free offering that is just this. That wants to feel like a long exhale.

As sensitives, we hear a lot that we should have a "thicker skin" or we should keep the vibes up. We should just be "normal", should we not?

I spent all my life trying to fit in, and make myself acceptable, more like "everybody else". I justified my feelings and the core of my way of being for so long. I also accepted to be told that I should be different.

Everything changed when I understood and learnt more about being a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP). And when I learnt what was truly helpful to tend to my sensitive heart. Soft lights, low volume sounds, being in presence of people that are not judging but welcome who I am with delight. Yoga, and in particular Yoga Nidra, have been key for me to start companioning my feelings, and my often overwhelmed body and mind.

I hope you are being tender to yourself this Sunday, everything going on in our collective is very overwhelming. And still, the world needs your joy, you unique ability to feel and wear your heart on your sleeve.

Reclaim sovereignty on your inner world, as deep, complex, contradictory it may be.

How can you find a moment for you to be in your sanctuary today? A mini ritual: perhaps a bath or a song listened while you lay down on something soft. Maybe it's just one breath, with a long ahhhhh exhale.

As sensitives, we hear a lot that we should have a "thicker skin" or we should keep the vibes up. We should just be "normal", should we not?

I spent all my life trying to fit in, and make myself acceptable, more like "everybody else". I justified my feelings and the core of my way of being for so long. I also accepted to be told that I should be different.

Everything changed when I understood and learnt more about being a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP). And when I learnt what was truly helpful to tend to my sensitive heart. Soft lights, low volume sounds, being in presence of people that are not judging but welcome who I am with delight. Yoga, and in particular Yoga Nidra, have been key for me to start companioning my feelings, and my often overwhelmed body and mind.

I hope you are being tender to yourself this Sunday, everything going on in our collective is very overwhelming. And still, the world needs your joy, you unique ability to feel and wear your heart on your sleeve.

Reclaim sovereignty on your inner world, as deep, complex, contradictory it may be.

How can you find a moment for you to be in your sanctuary today? A mini ritual: perhaps a bath or a song listened while you lay down on something soft. Maybe it's just one breath, with a long ahhhhh exhale.

When I started teaching, I had a vision: creating a container rooted in tenderness so that people could breathe, rest and feel seen.

I am so happy and proud that I focused on creating and sharing offerings so very aligned with this vision. Even when this is not what usually "sells", or what is considered "mainstream" yoga.

Not even the time or bandwidth to put make up on. Body feels tired, brain overwhelmed, heart heavy and spent.

I think there is no reason why anything different than what we feel or how we truly are should be displayed on social media.
